Power Belly in the eStudio

IT’S POWER BELLY TIME!

This class is similar to Thursdays Power Belly Class except it’s done in theater lighting and it’s video taped to be put online each week so students can join in and dance with us in the eStudio from around the country. See our YouTube clips here!

This class is for all levels except “absolute” beginners. Meaning you should at least have an introduction to basic body alignment and have an understanding of how the dance is constructed. You don’t have to know how to do everything however. The cool thing about Power Belly is by coming regularly you will sweat and pick up the moves fast because it’s to live music and is so inspiring and motivating. Really, all levels can participate in this class.

We use the Power Belly weight belts, but you don’t have to. The workout is fun and great exercise with or without a weight belt. The class is in a circle and the camera mostly is on Delilah to respect the student’s privacy but there may be a clip here and there as the class rotates in the room so you do have to sign a models release to be in this class. If Delilah knows you are an extrovert you might be invited to come dance with her in the center of the room but no one has to. It’s meant to be fun not intimidating! We have been practice filming each week since last May. Trying to get it down in style sound and format and are almost ready to go online! Our belief is everyone can belly dance no matter what age, shape, size or back ground. It’s a great way to get to know and express your self. NOTE: Your participation in this class goes a long way in conveying to dancers around the country what Delilah talks about daily.

“Belly Dance Empowers All Our Lives”. This is important work and each student in this class is carrying an important message to her sisters.

If you want to participate and have questions about alignment and proper dance structure call us and we maybe able to set up a mini private to get you up to par. 206 632-2353.

Lets have Fun!

What should you wear? What ever you feel comfortable in. Yoga pants, leotards, cholies, sports bras, skirts, hip scarves, or costumes are fine. It’s up to you.

No finger cymbals because of the microphone sensitivity.

Power Belly Weight Belts: Weight belts are a element of the Power Belly format but not mandatory. We want to demonstrate different strokes for different folks. You can rent them for $5.

Video Shoot: The class is going to be primarily shot from above and focusing on Delilah. The class is taught in a circle with students facing in but when the circle travels certain area’s of the circle will be caught on camera. As well as when Delilah moves out of the center spot. Some dancers will find this fun and for others it may not be your cup of tea.

Power Belly The Class History

The summer of 2003 the first Power Belly Course was offered for 4 weeks before Delilah went on her 40 Days and 40 Nights East Coast Tour. Dancers loved it with or without weight belts, but for those who used weight belts, the results were amazing! We saw waistlines manifest. Dancers lost weight, inches, and got incredibly strong. So, we are going to do it again. Now we are proud to announce that the Power Belly Class is one of our most popular classes we offer. Jeannette, who attends both Tuesday and Thursday class gets the award for ‘Most Enthusiastic’! She told me the other day that she has not missed one class since that summer in 2003!

When we opened VDP Studio in 2004 we added the element of live music by Erik Brown: percussion, bass, cumbus, samples and found sounds as accompaniment to our courses. The live element gives us an added dimension to the total feeling of involvement in the dance. This is also the goal of Power Belly–– to move from the gut! We strive to engage the dancer emotionally through the discovery of the power in her belly!
