For the past 26 years Delilah has entered her belly dance class as an ensemble in the Solstice Parade. Her biggest group was over 200 dancers and they built a pyramid in the middle of the parade route without stopping the parade. That class project took 6 months to create. This years ambitions are a lot more modest and we hope to have 30-45 dancers. We will learn everything in 6 weeks like we do every year.
The class is held out doors (mostly) and in the Fremont Neighborhood. Lots of exercise and fun. We learn drum rhythms body moves and 4-5 short choreographies in Parade Style belly dance (a bit different than belly dance for stage and not exactly Tribal style either). We wear sandals and use bigger movements and constantly move forward. You are welcome to take the classes and not be in the actual parade (June 18th, noon to 6pm.) We charge for our classes but we all volunteer on parade Day! We really hope you will want to be in the parade. It’s so much fun to participate and wear a costume.
The audience is very supportive and enthusiastic. They stay seated, but we dance by them. Feels like we are on a boat floating down the Nile. The route is all on level ground and goes from lower Fremont though town to Gasworks Park where there is green grass, music, food and a beer garden. (be sure and make a pocket in your costume for your ID)
The “Main Parade” class is on Wednesday. Everyone needs to be in that class.
