Ringa-ringa
BOLLYWOOD CHOREOGRAPHY: RINGA RINGA

2 Hour Workshop

The term ”Bollywood” refers to India’s enormous film industry that is located in Bombay (now ”Mumbai.”) Bollywood movies, like the old American musical comedies, feature big production numbers with lots of dancing, singing, melodrama and romance and dancing is an important and beloved part of Bollywood films. Although Bollywood choreographies originally drew from classical Indian dance and folk forms, belly dance and jazz elements have entered the mix.

Instead of just putting belly dance moves to Bollywood music, Laurel Victoria Gray skillfully combines regional Indian folkdance steps with a sprinkling of appropriate classical Indian elements to capture the true spirit of Bollywood style.

This flirtatious piece is set to the song RINGA RINGA from the film SLUM DOG MILLIONAIRE. It tells the
story of a naughty “bedbug” who keeps a girl awake all night long.

Date: Saturday Nov 26th
Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm
Cost: $40 before Nov 17th $45 after Mail in a Check & Registration Form or Drop off Cash at the studio

VINTAGE CALIFORNIA TRIBAL: COMPLETE CHOREOGRAPHY

2 Hour Workshop

Return to the roots of Tribal belly dance!

Before there was ATS, before there was Tribal Fusion, there was “California Tribal” — an informal term used to describe the dance form created by Jamila Salimpour and her troupe
Bal Anat. Imitated by many belly dance groups on the West Coast, this style inspired dancers with its precise hip movements and creative use of props. Costumes were more
varied as well, drawing from a variety of cultural sources.

Learn a vintage California Tribal style choreography to the Middle Eastern sounding version of the Rolling Stone’s “Paint it Black” arranged by the Brothers of the Baladi. With compelling rhythm changes and intriguing instrumentation, this musical selection is the perfect setting for a witty wink at the past that will challenge dancers and entertain audiences.

Date: Saturday Nov 26th
Time: 2:00pm – 4:00pm
