How to find out about classes

When you go to a date on our calendar, click the class title and it will be linked to either a PDF flyer or an information box on our class description page. Not all the courses listed on our class description pages are always available. If it says TBA and there are no dates listed, that means it is not an active class at this time, but may return at another date.

How to register

Once you find a class you want to take on our calendar, download a registration form, fill it out, sign and send with your check. You may also deliver in person or deposit it into our mail slot at the studio. We do not take reservations for classes on the phone, but we are happy to answer questions on the phone. Your registration form & check puts you in a class. We do not take debit or credit cards for classes and performance services, but we do take credit cards for merchandise. If you are registering on the day of class, please pay cash. We charge $20 for returned checks.

The studio is a gray building on the corner of 42nd and Fremont Ave N. Doesn’t look like much from the out side but it’s pretty nice inside. There are 2 doors, but the one closest to the corner is the entrance.

Parking

Please do not park in back of the studio. That belongs to the apartments next door. There is plenty of free parking on the street. We are 4 minutes from downtown Seattle on a very accessible bus route.

Our studio, office or store

The office/shop is in the front at your right as you face the building. You are welcome at anytime to come into the office and shop or register for class. We do not have a lot of walk by business, however there are people working most days. If you want to come by just call and tell us when you want to drop in and we will make sure someone is there for you. We live across the street and run lots of errands during the day. Most of our business is online. If you come by and no one is there, call the number on the door. We can sometimes be there in 2 minutes.

Dressing room

The dressing room is a curtained area where we ask dancers to store their stuff including water bottles, purses, and coats. This is so the dance room does not become cluttered and encroach on psychic dance space. There is an honor system water and snack bar with a change jar. The proceeds go toward studio and performance props. If you need more privacy for dressing, the restroom is in the back.

Dance room

The dance room is 700 sq foot with 14 foot ceilings. We have a stereo DVD player and mirrors. It’s beautiful and we love it!

What to wear

We dance primarily barefoot. Soft exercise clothes, sports bras, tie tops, camis, leggings, skirts, shifts, leotards and tights. Don’t worry about it the first day if you are new. You will be given ideas of what to wear and why by your instructor. Beginners can borrow hip scarves for the first few weeks so you do not need to buy anything to get started.

About pricing

We set a price based on studio overhead, instructors’ valuable time and accumulated expertise. Sometimes our special guests have travel expenses as well. Classes are often a little less expensive the earlier you sign up, but we know sometimes it’s hard to know your schedule ahead of time. You are welcome to pay the full price and have the luxury of signing up the day of as long as there is space.

Cancellation and refunds

If we do not have enough full time students registered on the first day of a class, we reserve the right to cancel and return your money (of course). If you show up and the class series is canceled, the instructor will most likely teach that one class as a comp and you will not be charged.

You may cancel a class up to 3 days before class and get a refund. Any later, the teacher’s time has already been reserved and there are no refunds. We have many instructors so switching classes in some cases is allowed. If pulling out of class costs the instructor who has already committed to teaching that class money out of her pocket, it can not be allowed. We do not allow make-ups either, since instructors are paid per person per each class in a series. We reserve the right to call in a substitute instructor when needed.

Crazy Weather Conditions

We cannot cancel class for what may be happening in outlying areas (our landlord still charges us rent). So if the streets are clear in Fremont and vicinity, there will be class. If it is impossible for you to get to class because of ice or snow, we will give you a free pass to one of Delilah’s Power Belly Classes; the best we can offer. We cannot be held responsible for all weather conditions.

Auditing classes

We do not allow people to watch classes. This is to respect dancers enrolled. If you want to meet with an instructor beforehand that may be arranged. We feel you need to get your hips wet to really know if belly dance is for you. We do run sampler classes from time to time and some classes allow drop-ins. Bookmark the calendar page.

Drop Ins

Usually, drop-ins are ok if there is room and it is not a project oriented performance class. Feel free to call if you are unsure. Know that if we make a change in the schedule we cannot alert you if you are a drop in. If you call us last minute and we do not call you back, you can still come to a workshop at the door.

Out of town dancers are welcome

Check our web calendar. The best class to drop in to is Power Belly. This class is traditionally held on Tuesday and Thursday night and taught by Delilah and live music by Erik Brown. Some performance classes are great for advanced dancers, but call first to let us know you are coming, if you can. Dahlia Moon’s classes are good for drop ins. All Saturday workshops and morning classes are usually good. Call and let us know if you can, but you do not have to get a call back to attend.

Birthdays, Girls Scout meetings, Bachelorette Parties, and Baby Showers, Rights of Passage, Wakes, Ground Breaking Ceremonies, and more. Anytime you want to recognize the presence of divine creative energy! We travel or better yet, we rent out our studio with mirrors and furnishings. We can furnish hip scarves, veils and other paraphernalia to make the experience rich and fun. You can bring snacks and refreshments and take your time and hang out and open gifts or bring in other performers. Call and tell us your desires and needs. We love to help plan and make suggestions.

Seattle Student in Residence Program

A student in residence program is intensive and includes the following:
Private lessons with Delilah, rhythm and drum instruction with Erik Brown, drum solo work with live drum, Practice time in studio, room, board and group classes at VDP Studio. They can be custom tailored. You must submit introduction about yourself, goals, and character references.

This is a great opportunity for foreign students, people in between life transitions who want to delve into the adventure of belly dance. You can be any age and any level of experience.
