Absentee Particapation BELLY POWER PROJECT
Halima's Fabulous Idea!
While being a judge at the Emerald Rain belly dance competition I sat next to the distinguished Halima and she gave me a great suggestion.
"Delilah, I have a suggestion for your project. You can either file it, trash it, or run with it but what about dancers who can't come for various reason; either they are too shy, unavailable or have a current physical disability but they want to support in dollars and in spirit the Billion Belly March? How about if they send their photo and another dancer could carry them through the parade?"
Hmmmm interesting idea. Everyone will be dancing in the parade and it's always the hardest thing to find extras but this maybe a aspect we could incorporate in the float and prop design department. Let me think about this. I like it. Hmmm, I'd hate to look like a death march however.
Next day at Raqs Serpentine's Anniversary Show of Pyramid Lounge. The idea is starting to gel and a group discussion ensues with dancers about Halima's idea. Them all of a sudden Jane Hall suggests Belly Photos! Yes, yes yes, YES! A terrific idea! I think we have it. We ask folks to send pictures OF THEIR BELLIES! Yes and we do incorporate it into a art piece.
So here's how:
Pretty fun, pretty simple and be creative! Express your Belly Power! Send an 8 by 10 belly shot in a plastic sheet protector with a suggested donation of $10. The money will go toward art and construction supplies and the post party food beverages and entertainment for all the dancers and volunteers!
Send to:

Identify your self and place of origin on the front or back of work. You choose. Go crazy and decorate your belly with jewels and ornaments then photograph it. You can draw on your belly or draw or paint the photograph or you could draw or paint a picture of your belly. You could magnify a close up of your navel. I don't want to think up all the ideas I'm sure we will be amazed at what dancers come up with to express their BELLY POWER!
