3:00 - 4:30 Belly Dance Class with Delilah and Armando: Live Ritual Warm up
In the first 1/2 hour we’ll map out integral bellydance alignment and suck up some of the earth's vital energy, then slowly warm up, stretch out and move from our center to Armando's creative percussive sound scapes. The live drum leads and implores us to heat up our expressive spirits toward an aerobic 60 minutes of impassioned dance! Yes!
5:00- 6:00 Armando’s Drum Class
Armando is a splendid instructor in the percussionary arts. He can play anything, be it a drum, tambourine, rattle, rock or a toad stool. This is an opportunity that many dancers do not have in their home town. You don’t have to have high expectations of becoming a professional drummer; understanding the rhythmatic foundations of dance is an important part of a dancer’s education. Every year someone comes away discovering that she really loves drumming and didn’t know she had a knack for it. Armando makes drumming an easy, therapeutic, and fun experience. You don’t want to miss this, so be sure and bring a drum if you can: dumbek, riq or tar.
6:00- 7:00 Dinner
7:30- 9:00 Nikki and Sol: Zambra
is a type of song from the Andalusian region of southern Spain deeply rooted in Moorish influences. This first class will be an introduction to flamenco using the structure and rhythm of zambra. We will learn about posture and some basic flamenco steps. We will also learn a little about the language of flamenco and the dynamic of the "flamenco cuadro" (a group of singers, dancers, guitarists, and palmistas — handclapping). All class will be taught barefoot. A long full skirt and fitted top is suggested.
